Q Identify the problems faced by parolees upon their release. Which problems do you think are the most difficult to overcome and should we be doing more as a society to assist with the transition?
Prisoners face three main problems upon release: Psychological issues stemming from prison, lack of social support and lack of financial stability. A lack of social support can be a personal problem that society isn't meant to fix. This can include: disowning of the prisoner upon conviction, a complete lack of family structure, absentee parenting, abandonment by friends, and a general disdain for them by society. Society could fix the lack of financial stability to a point by providing more training programs, and placing laws on discrimination against former criminals.
